International flair: Silex Restaurant & Wine Bar

The three founders and gastronomy scene trendsetters George Tomlin, Jean-Denis Roger and Julia von Meiss have realised their heart’s project in Zurich Wiedikon: Silex (French for flint) — a fluid concept between restaurant and wine bar.

The founding trio focuses on sustainability, integrity and transparency — not only in the field of gastronomy, but also in their choice of partners for the design and interior fittings of their premises. The interior architecture and design concept was created by Stiller Projects and we were responsible for the interior fittings in this partial renovation: from specialist planning to production and installation.

This complex project, completed in just two months, is characterised by structurally sophisticated detailed solutions and the use of a wide variety of materials. At the end, there was even time to toast the successful project together at the new bar table.

Counter in chrome steel, tables in solid elm

The center stage is taken by the wine bar, the bar table and the reception, they form the spatial separation between the guest room and the open kitchen/wine bar. These three elements are a great eye-catcher and symbolise the large variety of materials to be coordinated in advance and perfected down to the last detail.

We used the following materials for this project: elm veneer, solid elm — partly additionally turned, lacquered surfaces, chrome steel, limestone, mirrors and on-site components such as ceramic floor tiles, some of which are also part of the furniture.
