back to overview

Congratulations to our team members Manuel Wohler, carpenter EFZ furniture in training, Joy Ambühl, technician HF construction planning and interior design, and Darja Studer, Designer FH, for their outstanding work and excellent performance!

The last furniture

In her bachelor thesis at the FHNW HGK, Darja Studer deals with the last phase of a person’s life, develops an independent piece of furniture and is awarded with the swiss design association bachelor award 2018 – congratulations! The last phase of a person’s life is a demanding and vulnerable time. The move from home to a hospice or hospital is difficult. Based on research, she designs a room element to make this step easier to handle. It serves as a privacy screen and storage for personal belongings, photos and pictures that have an important meaning throughout a lifetime. The furniture reflects the individuals personality.

Wood as food

We sit on a wooden chair, fire our heaters with wood and cut our bread on a wooden board. We need wood for a lot of things – but is it possible to eat wood? Manuel Wohler and Zoe Munz give us the answer with their in-depth work at the Technische Fachschule Bern (TFB) “Fibre – wood! …and now?”. They examine wood shavings – a waste product – in the laboratory and cook them. As a result they obtain wood shavings that almost look and taste like oat flakes. As pure dietary fibre, the wood shavings are satiating and can be easily combined with other foods. They are already working out suitable recipes. We congratulate them on the award for the best deepening work 2019 at the TFB and for the support by “Schweizer Jugend forscht” – and wish them all the best for their continuing work on the project!

Put in scene

A swiss carpenter company owns an old factory hall which today serves as a showroom for building owners. In these characteristic rooms a revised utilisation concept is to be developed: There must be a showroom for visitors as well as an event room for outsiders, both based on a flexible use of space. Joy Ambühl’s diploma thesis “Projekt CUBE” at GIBB proposes a concept that values the charming building. It combines the old with the modern, creates a static structure in the room and possibilities for conversion. A successful project, which convinces with courage to contrasts, and receives the price for the best diploma thesis 2019 of the technicians building planning HF interior architecture – congratulations!
