Hospitality takes the center stage

How is it possible to integrate a new reception into an existing architecture? How does the guidance needs to be designed in order to offer patients and visitors optimum service? How can a new appearance and ambience be integrated into an existing colour and material concept?

Answering these questions was the focus of this challenging project. The great challenge was to reconcile diverse needs and requirements for the new reception area. With the presentation of different variants — from gentle renovation to comprehensive redesign — we managed to get all parties on board. In the end, the chosen redesign is convincing: a combination between “modern, fresh and tidy”, optimal work processes, easy handling and a pleasant working atmosphere.

When designing the reception area, we incorporated the existing, striking architecture, the columns that obstruct vision and the recently redesigned cafeteria into the design language and color scheme. Result: the reception area appears in a new fresh, modern and inviting atmosphere. Thanks to the new signalling system, the guidance of visitors and patients is optimally controlled. An additional plus point: the forecourt can now be better used. In the course of the redesign, the air conditioning, technology and lighting areas have also been renewed or optimised. The new brandwall incorporates elements of the reception desk and is an attractive eye-catcher for visitors and patients.

Further challenges were the tight time schedule, the high demands on the execution of the work (compliance with hygiene conditions and work processes) during normal hospital operation and the given budget framework. Thanks to the excellent cooperation with the responsible project manager, Philipp Strahm, we were able to achieve this as well and together with the Tiefenau Hospital we are pleased about the successful result.
