Right at the main entrance of the historic Biel station, a new meeting place has been created: Vagabund. Instead of an anonymous fast-food chain, travellers, commuters and guests will find a place that combines street food, regional character and sustainability – uncomplicated, tasteful and mindful.

With this project, SBB is pursuing its strategy of “More local colour at the stations.” The aim is a tenant mix that strengthens the regions and conveys real identity and connection to people. Genussspecht GmbH won the tender for this prime location with the concept “Vagabund” – and we were able to contribute our expertise to give this promise spatial expression.

Concept
The operating concept “Personal and Digital” gives guests complete freedom: nothing is a must, everything is possible. Whether take-away on the go, a relaxed coffee on the terrace or shopping for regional wines – Vagabund adapts to people’s needs. Fast, uncomplicated, sustainable – and always served with a smile.

Approach

We accompanied Vagabund from the first idea to realisation:

  • Interior architecture & design

  • Feasibility study and layouts

  • Building application and design consulting

  • Interior architecture and lighting design

  • Construction management and joinery works

The design is urban, raw and vibrant – shaped by recycled materials, deliberately without heavy refinement. This created a place with character, making the idea of circular economy tangible in spatial form.

Vagabund is more than a restaurant: it is a space to pause, enjoy and discover. A piece of Biel’s soul in the middle of the station – created with clear ideas, a modest budget and plenty of passion.
